So, Matt picked up his reserved copy of Mario Kart for the Wii this morning after church. He also got an extra steering wheel so that I can play too--how thoughtful. Coincidentally, any other boy who's closer to 3o than 20 can also use it. He's been playing for the past 2 hours and has just declared that he needs to take a break...so he turned on the Nascar race. I just have to say that the little picture of the steering wheel that Nintendo uses in the game looks like underpants in a circle. Boys and their toys...

Mom
For those of you who don't know already, my mom has been in China for the past week and will be for the next week. Her school (well, 12 people from her school anyway) is there on an exchange program with some wonderful people. She called last night ($2.50/min) and let us know that she's having a wonderful time. I'm so glad that she went...I'm not sure that I would've had the guts. I hope that I would have. Anyway, this is where she is today:

Vacation
This past weekend, the three of us were able to steal away for a long weekend in Providence, RI. While Matt and I manage to travel kind of a lot, we wanted to make sure that we had a chance to take our little family out of town for a bit by ourselves this year. Our big day was at the Roger Williams Zoo which we all enjoyed. Joseph was entranced by some of the animals and the other kids roaming around. Otherwise, we just kind of cruised around the city and enjoyed ourselves. On our way home, we also stopped at Ikea...a guilty pleasure. Well, here's one picture of the cutest little boy ever. And, I don't just think that because he's mine ;) I'll post more when I've got a chance. We've got some good ones!

Can openers and Coffee
My mom is one of those people who forms emotional attachments to inanimate objects. So, consequently, she still has the same can opener that she's had forever. As this is the world that I grew up in, I also form bizarre attachments to stuff. This is why I'm having trouble packing up Joseph's clothes. He has some of the cutest little outfits! Don't get me wrong, I don't want him to stay little forever--I'm not one of those people. I love watching him grow and change, and I'm treasuring every quirky day that I'm lucky enough to be home with him. It's just that I'm not ready to pack up some of his 3-6 month clothes yet...despite sleeves that come to his elbows and legs that come to his knees. I keep thinking "we can getone more wear out of that cute Bears outfit" or "he can wear those dino pj's one more night" as he can't get his legs straight because they're way too short. Oh well. The next one will get some cute clothes, I guess, seeing as that I can't part with them (why? I don't know). And, Joseph will look sweet in the Snoopy jacket that both his mom and Uncle Cool wore that his Grandma just couldn't part with either :)
I've been decaffeinated for over a year now. But, there's just something about going to bed at midnight (since that's the only time that I can get intelligent stuff done), waking up at 3:30, falling asleep again by 4 (maybe), up at 5:30ish (with Matt), and baby up around 6 (and staying up) that just necessitates coffee. Since making coffee is one of those things that I've neglected learning (I know that it's ridiculously easy, I just don't pay attention so that someone else does it for me), I've been so grateful for the cup that Matt leaves me these past few days. Thankfully, it seems that I can drink my coffee and nurse Joseph back to sleep around 8:30 successfully. So, the caffeine isn't hitting him (I hope). I couldn't imagine having to function at school on this much sleep, although I'm sure that I would make appropriate adjustments. Right now I'm grateful that I don't have to worry about that.

This week
When he hasn't been whining lately (because of either his cold or shots), he's been terribly entertaining. He found his feet last week. And, he's figured out that he can control his voice. So, he's been singing to himself and taking his socks off. He seems to be close to rolling over, but it's hard to tell. He's getting up on a side, but gets stuck on his arm. He'll get there, I'm sure.
And, we finally installed the webcam that we bought last year. So, we Skyped (is that a word?) Matt's family and got to see everyone. Pretty cool! It was too bad that Joseph had to go to bed before Grandpa got there for dinner, but we'll catch him soon, I'm sure.

Things I've learned:
- Onesies are white for a reason: so that you can [literally] bleach the crap out of them.
- Oxyclean is a wonderful invention, particularly for those not-white onesies.
- Long haired cats are more pleasant when they're short haired cats.
- I should've started making "honey do" lists a long time ago.
- That aspirator thing that the doctors give you for sucking your kid's nose out really works...if you can tie the screaming snotty [again, literally] kid down long enough to not shove it into either their eye or their brain.
- Drew Carey is a much cooler Star of TPIR than Bob Barker.
- Ryan Seacrest is kind of a yutz.
- Gordon Ramsay is not a yutz.

New Tricks
And, Joseph has a new trick too. He bit me. Yeah. I know that he doesn't have any teeth. No, he didn't bite my finger. It was all that I could do to keep from shrieking. Apparently this happens. Oh boy. When you shriek (because, let me tell you: it hurt!), you run the risk of kicking them into a "nursing strike." He'd get awfully hungry since he hates bottles if that happened. So, I summoned all of my self control and kept from screaming. This was a whole new kind of pain...not the "I'm figuring out this nursing thing and have chapped and cracked parts that aren't normally chapped and cracked." This was the "Oh my goodness...is it still attached?" kind of pain that leaves a nice blood blister. When will he eat food?

So, I've been thinking...
So, read any good books lately? One of the things that I'm enjoying about my new life of mommyhood is that I'm reading again! I seem to be able to catch a few pages everyday and I so love it. I will happily entertain any suggestions!
And, what's the verdict on Facebook? I've been hesitant to "go there" because I know that so many of my former students are on there. Matt has signed up recently, though, and has reconnected with a bunch of old friends. Hmm, I'm not sure about this one yet.
And, what ever happened to customer service, anyway? The previously-touted-now-icky people who took the cute pictures of Joseph have become my poster-people of bad customer service. I'm no business person, but wouldn't you think that if you (the business) made a minor billing mistake in the customer's favor that it might be in your best interest to perhaps cut the customer a deal to insure your future relationship? That seems to make sense to me, instead of trying to hose the customer for hundreds of dollars. Oh well. They win. I'll take my business elsewhere and I suggest that anyone considering Pixel Perfect Photography does the same.
And, isn't it springtime yet? It's been nice and warm, although windy, the last lots of days and there is still freaking snow in my backyard! Enough already! The robins want their worms to thaw.
And, speaking of enough already...c'mon China, throw Carrie a bone here. We're all waiting. They deserve first class tickets to China to pick up their sweet little girl (hopefully girl) and all of the moon cakes that they can eat while they're there. I can't even begin to imagine being you!
And, I've decided that I love blogs. I like being able to see what's shaking with my friends. So, hopefully you folks out there enjoy my ramblings. I know that our lives are mostly dull and boring, but we like them :) I extra love it when people leave me comments (hint hint).
And, I think that's it for me tonight. Have a Happy Friday 'n stuff!
